I know you've been waiting and wondering and the curiosity is probably killing you to hear and/or see evidence of the moment when daughter and father were finally back in each other's arms. It's been just over two weeks since Andrew (aka Da-ee) arrived home from his 7 months (and 4 days, if we're being completely honest) in Afghanistan. It was a very sweet reunion that unfortunately I was unable to catch on video or film because of typical things that occurred through the inadvertence of an unnamed "agency" that neglected to tell the families travelling from Moncton to Fredericton to meet their loved ones that the plane carrying said precious cargo was going to arrive an hour early. So, despite the fact that we were actually ahead of schedule in relation to when we were originally told to arrive, Andrew missed out on that "glory" of coming through the doors to see his loving family waiting. Sadly, had I not stopped to change Maaike's diaper, we actually might have made it! But, despite all that, and the fact that I didn't have time to take my camera out of my purse, the moment Maaike spotted her Daddy, she RAN to him, hollering his name across the large corridor. Although there weren't many people left waiting around, there wasn't a dry eye in the house when they wrapped their arms around each other in what can only be described as a "lump-in-throat" moment ...
Andrew is off on leave until July. We're just enjoying each other's company and getting a new routine established. Maaike is totally in love with her Daddy -- or, as she calls him even when addressing him personally, "my Da-ee". They're having a hoot together, playing play-dohs, painting, going for rides in Daddy's car, and the newest thing: riding bikes. Life isn't just good, it rides circles around it. :o)
