Little Sick Bugaloo

You know your kid isn't feeling well when they fall asleep before 8:30 a.m. watching their fave episode of Barney. Poor little bug! She's been fighting something for the better part of this week, and without giving too much information, let's just say we've been going through a LOT of diapers. : )

Today she wanted her "Gora pillow, banket, and Ted-Nuk [her we-can-never-lose-him Teddy and the usually-only-in-the-bed pacifier]" on the couch in the family room so she would watch some Treehouse. And, frankly, I would give her the moon right now if she asked for it so her wish is my command. I feel so sorry for that little tooshie!!! So here we sit, on a beautiful day, watching too much TV.

At least I have a load of laundry on the line ... ; )

For Sure

Maaike's wonderful Daddy was home on leave from Afghanistan for the better part of three weeks ... and boy did he have some fun with his girl! There were worries that she would "reject" him initially, or at least be wary of him, but from the way she leaped into his arms the second he strolled through the arrivals gate, and clung onto his neck with her head buried in his shoulder, we had absolutely nothing to worry about.

He was so amazed at how much Maaike has grown since he's been gone. Sure, we've Skyped and he's viewed pictures and video along the way, but there's nothing like having the real thing right there in front of you, talking, walking, jumping, swimming, singing, reading, playing, creating, arguing, demanding ... and looking into your eyes telling you "I wuh woo, Da-ee". He was butter!!!

There is no doubt there is a wonderful connection between these two people who hold my heart so dear.

It won't be long and we'll have "Da-ee" home again for good, something Maaike definitely needs in her life. It's from him she will learn how she should be treated by a man, how she should be respected and adored ... he will lead by example and help her to grow into a proud, happy, self-respecting young woman. This, I know for sure.
