A Famous Cutie?

Well, we all know that she ought to be in pictures, but a magazine cover model? Yeah, I think she should be that, too. But this is just a great application that Today's Parent offers on their website. You can create a cover with your own cutie(s), and email it or print it off, or even order a copy to be framed. Since we're subscribers to Today's Parent magazine, however, we opted to have our November issue actually arrive with this cover on it! (Oh, boy, I hope I filled it out correctly!!!) I'm so excited! Might have to order a few extras ... :o)

The Water Rat

A few weeks ago we were invited to play at our friends' cottage in Caissie Cape. The water was as warm as a bath, shallow for quite a ways out, and Maaike had so much fun swimming on her own. Thanks to our friends for sharing their beautiful home away from home, a little piece of paradise I might add; and to our other friends for sharing their camera. It would have been awful to have missed out on these precious memories ... !!!

Look, Momma! I floating!

Sometimes it's not enough to just have your toes in the sand

All in all, a great day was had by all. Thanks again, Kate, Lauren, Mandi & Asher!

A Visit with the Zay Man

Remember Isaiah? He's the little guy who stayed with us for 6 weeks in the Spring of 2009 while his parents were away with their jobs. Well, fate has intervened and the Ike and Zay show is making a come-back. The Grants are posted to Gagetown, just a short drive from Moncton! So we get to hang out with our friends, and Maaike and Isaiah are getting reacquainted at a stage when they're actually wanting to play together rather than just in the same room.

It's awesome to have y'all back, guys. We've missed you ...

Five Fabulous Years

I want to wish a Happy Anniversary to my wonderful husband!!! It's been 5 years since we said our I do's in a ceremony that people are still talking about: a double ceremony on the beach at our cottage in central Nova Scotia. From the deck box full of beer, to the laid back attire and the minorly botched vows ('lawfully redheaded husband' is now a staple in our vocabulary), to Frank's scythe and the JOP kicking off her heels before heading for the beach barefoot, and to the stories and laughs around the campfire, it all paled in comparison to the fact that I married the love of my life that day ... and I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat.

I love you, Andrew. Happy 5th Anniversary. Here's to 50+ more ... xox

Da-ee is HOME!

I know you've been waiting and wondering and the curiosity is probably killing you to hear and/or see evidence of the moment when daughter and father were finally back in each other's arms. It's been just over two weeks since Andrew (aka Da-ee) arrived home from his 7 months (and 4 days, if we're being completely honest) in Afghanistan. It was a very sweet reunion that unfortunately I was unable to catch on video or film because of typical things that occurred through the inadvertence of an unnamed "agency" that neglected to tell the families travelling from Moncton to Fredericton to meet their loved ones that the plane carrying said precious cargo was going to arrive an hour early. So, despite the fact that we were actually ahead of schedule in relation to when we were originally told to arrive, Andrew missed out on that "glory" of coming through the doors to see his loving family waiting. Sadly, had I not stopped to change Maaike's diaper, we actually might have made it! But, despite all that, and the fact that I didn't have time to take my camera out of my purse, the moment Maaike spotted her Daddy, she RAN to him, hollering his name across the large corridor. Although there weren't many people left waiting around, there wasn't a dry eye in the house when they wrapped their arms around each other in what can only be described as a "lump-in-throat" moment ...

Andrew is off on leave until July. We're just enjoying each other's company and getting a new routine established. Maaike is totally in love with her Daddy -- or, as she calls him even when addressing him personally, "my Da-ee". They're having a hoot together, playing play-dohs, painting, going for rides in Daddy's car, and the newest thing: riding bikes. Life isn't just good, it rides circles around it. :o)
